BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has proudly welcomed the newest members of its 2025 BlueScholars class, bringing the total number of BlueScholars students to 30 since the program’s inception in 2022. Now in its fourth year, the program partners with Benedict College and Claflin University to provide multiyear academic, professional and personal development opportunities to high-achieving students.

The BlueScholars program is a four-year experience designed to foster growth and development for each participant. It offers comprehensive support, including tuition, room and board, along with professional development opportunities such as hands-on learning sessions and mentorship.

Additionally, BlueScholars can take part in the BlueCross summer internship program, held from May to August, which provides further opportunities to expand their networks, deepen their learning and enhance their professional capabilities.

“BlueScholars represents our commitment to opening doors for talented students from across South Carolina,” said David Cote, vice president of human resources at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. “By providing access to meaningful professional experiences, we are helping to build a stronger workforce and preparing new talent to drive innovation and progress in our state.”

Selection into the program is competitive. It requires applicants to submit a short essay and a resume of academic achievements, extracurricular activities, volunteer work and awards. They must maintain a minimum high school grade point average of 3.2.

The program’s impact extends beyond academics. It fosters relationships between students and leaders in business, health care and the community.

“Benedict College is proud to partner with BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina in preparing our students to excel in their careers,” said Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis, president and CEO of Benedict College. “The BlueScholars program exemplifies the kind of strategic collaboration that empowers our students to achieve their full potential.”

“At Claflin University, we are dedicated to shaping visionary leaders ready to thrive in a rapidly evolving world,” said Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack, president of Claflin University. “The BlueScholars program perfectly reflects this commitment, offering our students transformative opportunities and experiences that will benefit them for a lifetime.”

Looking ahead, BlueCross will continue expanding opportunities within the BlueScholars program to ensure even more students gain the skills, connections and real-world experiences needed to thrive in their future careers.
